Wind energy could help boost British manufacturing

If Britain realises its potential as a world leader in wind energy then more jobs will be created and the economy will be stimulated, according to an expert.

A spokeswoman from The Renewable Energy Centre.co.uk said that, at the moment, there is too much red tape in the way of the steps which are needed to make Britain the centre of European wind energy.

Manufacturing is one area where sales jobs could be affected if the UK realises its potential, but the spokesperson believes around £11 billion is needed per year to create the ideal energy environment.

"Undoubtedly, with more renewables being planned and implemented, a new set of skills and manufacturing opportunities come with it which, in turn, can only have a positive effect on the British economy," she said.

In March, the Index of Production report showed that manufacturing productivity increased and Ian McCafferty, chief economic advisor for the Confederation of British Industry, predicted this would continue for the coming months.
