Innovative manufacturing 'key area for Brits'

The UK has a strong future in the field of innovative manufacturing, an expert has claimed.

Sahar Hashemi, business author, says that it is when crafting products which are unique that Britain really excels and urged the manufacturing industry to play to its undoubted strengths.

With a growth in manufacturing likely to lead to a rise in technical sales jobs, Ms Hashemi's confidence will be welcome news for jobseekers who have well-developed specialist skills.

Ms Hashemi added that innovation is one way in which the UK can differentiate itself from cheaper countries, emphasising quality and cutting-edge technology.

She said: "Where we can innovate is thinking of things that no one else does and building those. It will have to be manufacturing with an edge. We do things that people don't. That's where the opportunity is for us."

Her comments follow figures published by the Confederation of British Industry, which found that demand for goods produced by the country's small and medium-sized manufacturers is increasing both domestically and overseas.
