Flexible working 'could help firms fill sales jobs'
There is a strong business case for encouraging people to work flexibly, which could interest firms looking to fill sales jobs.
Ben Willmott, senior public policy advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, claimed that the government's decision to encourage more flexible working is a positive step.
He said: "There is a strong business case behind providing flexibility for employees in terms of recruitment and retention."
Employees with a better work/life balance are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs and to be willing to "go the extra mile" for their companies.
He added that the needs of the business must come first but flexibility can be offered without compromising this.
Mr Willmott's comments follow an announcement by Yvette Cooper, secretary for work and pensions, that the government will appoint a taskforce of businesses to champion flexible working in the private sector.
She pledged that more support will be offered to help companies realise the benefits of flexible working.
