Fundamental mistakes 'harm chances of recruitment success'

People looking for sales recruitment opportunities have been told that making fundamental mistakes can completely dash their chances of success.

A new survey of recruitment managers by CareerBuilder, including those who screen people for sales jobs, revealed that there are a wide range of mistakes that people are making when they go for an interview.

As well as the usual errors, which include dressing inappropriately, appearing disinterested or being arrogant, 52 per cent of applicants were found to have criticised previous employers, while 46 per cent answered phone calls or text messages during the interview.

The recruitment managers also told CareerBuilder that there were some more unusual mistakes made, including an applicant who asked if the interviewer wanted to meet for a drink afterwards and a candidate who ate food in the break room after being questioned.

Alison Green, writing for USNews, pointed out that badmouthing an ex-boss is not a good tactic as it makes the applicant look like they are hard to please.
