Asking about money at first interview 'a large pitfall'

People attending sales recruitment interviews should avoid asking about the salary rate at the first opportunity, according to an expert.

James Caan, an entrepreneur and star of the BBC's Dragons' Den, told the Daily Telegraph that while it is fine for people to be financially driven, they should not appear too obsessed with money.

"I also find body language to be a major factor [in] securing a job. I've seen it in the Dragons' Den and in a commercial setting. Making eye contact and giving a strong handshake are only half the battle," he added.

Caan also commented that having a good posture and friendly expression will indicate that the applicant has a positive approach, while unsuccessful candidates should always seek advice and look to build on constructive feedback.

Last week, research undertaken by recruitment website TheLadders.co.uk found that women give better job interviews than men as they are more adept at demonstrating how they can fit into a team.
