Julie Meyer, one of the stars of the online version of the show, said that entrepreneurs should never stop "thinking big" as doing so means it is "kind of game over".

"What's refreshing with working with entrepreneurs is that they never for a moment believe that they can control time. They're paranoid and they know that they need to move very, very fast to deter the market off its competitor," she added.

Ms Meyer also said that entrepreneurs have to be disciplined in the current market by not spending any more money than they need to on setting up sales jobs.

Employment experts Enterprise UK said that the recession has not stifled entrepreneurial ambition, with 17 per cent of adults in Great Britain wanting to become a businessperson.

It also found that if just one in ten aspiring entrepreneurs in the UK set up their own business, it would created over 1.1 million jobs.
