Sales recruitment boosted in Wales in govt scheme
Around 1,500 new jobs will be created in Swansea as part of a £1 billion employment initiative by the government.
In a boost to sales recruitment in the area, successful bids were received by the city council and the Swansea Council for Voluntary Service for money from the Future Jobs Fund.
The fund aims to create nearly 150,000 new positions throughout the UK, including a large number of sales jobs, for 18 to 24 year olds.
Peter Hain, secretary of state for Wales, said that the sales jobs would pay at least the national minimum wage for at least 25 hours a week and last six months.
"As well as giving young people the satisfaction of earning a wage, these jobs will also give them the opportunity to learn new skills and prove to employers just how capable they are," he added.
Mr Hain also commented that it was up to the government and the Welsh Assembly to prevent the recession in Wales from deepening.
Council leader Chris Holley heralded the announcement as "wonderful news", adding that many young people are finding it hard to access employment opportunities at the moment.
