Sales skills 'are important for contractors'
People trying to get into sales jobs need to improve their pitching skills if they are to get a new position, according to one expert.
Dave Chaplin, editor in chief and chief executive of contractor website ContractorCalculator.co.uk, said that being on the ball and being able to sell skills is vital if candidates want to access employment.
Mr Chaplin said: "You can be the greatest IT programmer or engineer on the planet, but if you can't sell your fabulous skills you might as well have stayed in full time employment and not wasted your time."
He added that having good sales skills is essential to succeeding in the world of contracting and can transfer to other sectors like sales jobs.
Having a wide range of skills and achievements on a CV is a good way to impress prospective employers, according to Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
