Interview techniques have changed in sales recruitment

The techniques used to succeed in interviews have evolved since the economic downturn and people applying for sales jobs may have to adjust their approach, according to one expert.

Business mogul James Caan, who appears on the BBC show The Dragon's Den, made the comments when writing in the Telegraph and added that potential employees for sales jobs need to raise the bar when performing in interviews.

He stated: "As a result of the candidate-saturated market, employers' expectations are at an all-time high, so you're going to have to pull off a fantastic performance."

Getting a good night's sleep, arriving early and wearing a smart suit are all staples of good interview preparation but the business man added that researching a company in detail is the most effective way to impress a potential employer.

Employees recruiting for sales jobs are also more likely to be impressed by candidates who can display a wide range of skills and interests, according to Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
