Making a good impression at an interview 'is simple'

Being well prepared, truthful and genuine is essential if you want to succeed in interviews for sales jobs, according to two experts.

People applying for sales jobs will want to avoid things like smiling excessively, being ignorant about the company they are applying to and being overly negative, according to advice from Jonathan Littman and Marc Hershon, who compiled their top ten tips for doing well in interviews.

Employment journalist Toni Bowers commented on the advice on the Tech Republic blog and added that being humorous in the right situation can stand sales jobs applicants in good stead.

She stated: "I've written about the subjectivity of humour in an interview before. When it's done right that is, you're engaging in a quip-trading tennis game of sorts with your interviewer then all is good."

Employers recruiting for sales jobs are also more likely to be impressed by candidates who can display a wide range of skills and interests, according to Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
