Gender balance 'essential for success'

Sales companies who employ a balance of men and women in managerial and executive roles are likely to find they are more financially productive, it has been claimed.

Karen Gill, director of business training and resources provider everywoman, said that although many companies appear to have a gender balance, women become less visible higher up in firms - with very few occupying senior management or board-level positions.

She added: "It is essential that organisations focus on encouraging and supporting their female staff into higher management and invest in their development and training to ensure they progress into the senior roles."

Ms Gill went on to stress there has been a great deal of debate that the macho male culture in the city of London contributed in part to the economic downturn.

In March, research commissioned by recruitment scoring website HireScores.com revealed that 81 per cent of British business managers admit they would ask female job applicants if they were pregnant, planned on having children or already had children if they could.
