Recruiters 'must find candidate quality'

When recruiting, companies tend to focus on a candidate's ability to overcome adversity, their self-motivation and their decisiveness, it has been revealed.

Research carried out by the Society for Advancement of Consulting indicates it is an illusion that that finding and securing talent is easier in times when more people are being made redundant.

Chief executive of the group Dr Alan Weiss commented that candidates can have degrees of talent and some hopefuls that may not be able to do a job effectively may interview well.

Lisa Anderson, a senior supply chain and operations executive and founder of LMA Consulting Group, commented: "I've found the most successful approach is to ask a series of questions about specific prior experiences or results and follow up with a few diverse case study questions to get an idea of how the candidate will respond to practical scenarios."

Last month, the UK Graduate Careers Survey 2009, carried out by High Fliers Research, revealed that a quarter of firms plan to take on more staff next year and half expect to maintain their recruitment at this year's levels.
