Sales managers 'must adapt to downturn'

Sales managers should streamline their approach to work in order to guide their teams through the economic downturn, it has been suggested.

According to IT training provider 01zero-one, taking advantage of coaching and mentoring opportunities that are presented every day and providing on-the-job training can help improve talented staff.

The group went on to recommend giving clear instructions to staff, as employees enjoy knowing what must be done and working to objectives.

Regarding motivation, the company added: "When things are difficult, we tend to be too busy checking that problems didn't arise and then cracking on with the next project. A word of thanks goes a long way."

Earlier this week, Hays Contact Centres claimed that despite the recession, employers are looking to bolster recruitment through the taking on of performance and workforce managers.

The group went on to say the need for sales manager positions is likely to increase further in the current economic climate.
