Firms 'place emphasis on management skills'
By Paul Goatman
Management skills testing remains top of the training list for employers in the UK, it has been claimed.
According to the Chartered Management Institute, government and employers need to think about how skills training can be accommodated in order to improve UK productivity.
Ruth Spellman, the group's chief executive, commented that compared to other professions, managers are significantly under-qualified.
She added: "Now more than ever, is the time to invest wisely because if organisations think that developing competence is expensive, they should consider the cost of incompetence."
Ms Spellman went on to say skills development is essential for organisations to be well placed when the economy begins to improve.
Last month, research carried out by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development indicated UK employers are placing an emphasis on management and leadership development as they squeeze their training budgets in the current difficult economic climate.
Some 36 per cent of firms stated that they expect training funding to decline next year.
