'Innovative management training scheme' launched

A new scheme has been launched to help business chiefs tackle the management skills gap, it has been revealed.

In a joint partnership, the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and the University of Portsmouth is providing a bridge between work-based learning solutions and academic qualifications, which will allow managers achieving an ILM Level 7 Executive Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Executive Management to progress directly to the university's Masters in leadership and management.

The news follows the release of a report last month by the House of Commons Committee, which called for skills shortages to be tackled in response to the shrinking economy.

Penny de Valk, chief executive of ILM, said: "The University of Portsmouth's MSc in Leadership and Management would be a valuable addition to any manager's CV.

"[It] Demonstrates how ILM qualifications can be used not just to improve skills but also as progression routes to further study."

Earlier this week, insurer Norwich Union claimed managers should be more vigilant of the signs of stress in the workplace.
