Staff 'require motivation in current climate'
Motivation and performance management are vital in the difficult economic climate, it has been claimed.
According to learning and development specialist Righttrack Consultancy, it is a mistake for companies to believe their employees will remain forever thankful that they have not been made redundant, and staff will have the same aspirations and management expectations that they had when the business world was more buoyant.
Management director of the group Kasmin Cooney said: "It is all too common for the employees who are left behind, after the rounds of redundancies have been completed, to have little or no idea of what their future is within their organisation."
The group went on to say cutting spending on human resources (HR) activities such as learning and development and incentive schemes is likely to create only short-term financial benefits that will be outweighed by the cost of recruiting new staff who have moved on to other organisations.
Last week, research carried out by yasni.co.uk indicated one-third of HR managers admit to searching for information about potential and current employees on social networking sites.
