HR managers 'check candidates' Facebook profiles'

Human resources (HR) managers admit to searching for information about potential and current employees on social networking sites.

A study of 961 HR people and business managers carried out by yasni.co.uk found one-third say they have searched sites such as MySpace and Facebook, while 24 per cent claim they were unimpressed by what they found.

Some 20 per cent stated that what they found was enough to put them off a client, with the biggest turn-offs being inappropriate drunk photos and rude comments.

Chief executive and co-founder of the group Steffen Ruehl commented: "These statistics once again reinforce the importance of monitoring your online profile. A comment that seems funny to a friend may be taken completely differently by a potential manager."

Earlier this week, the Joint Economic Commission highlighted new schemes implemented by the Jobcentre which are aiming to get people who are made redundant back into work as quickly as possible.
