Companies 'struggle to optimise workforce'

Enterprises lack the objective tools and processes necessary to optimise their workforce, it has been claimed.

Public software company SuccessFactors surveyed 277 businesses in the UK and Ireland to gauge how enterprises ensure their workforce is contributing to the bottom line.

The research found more than one-third said the performance of individual employees has been affected and 60 per cent said the top area of performance influenced by the downturn.

Andy Leaver, vice president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa sales for the company, commented: "Now more than ever companies need a consistent way to look across their organisation and make the tough calls that will allow them to compete and exploit any opportunities that become available."

This week, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development claimed if sales managers handle their staff effectively, workers are more inclined to stay motivated and less likely to take unnecessary sick days.
