Mentoring 'leads to successful management recruitment'
Mentoring schemes are the most effective method of training management staff, it has been claimed.
Sally Toumi, managing director for UK recruitment consultancy Stark Brooks, said firms able to put a support mechanism in place for employees entering into a management position tend to be the most successful in this regard.
"The ones who have been most effective are the ones who have had some form of mentor," she added.
"So, rather than being thrown straight in at a managerial level role they have actually worked alongside somebody."
Ms Toumi went on to say firms that take the time to invest in a mentoring programme are often able to get more performance out of those managers once they are given full responsibilities.
The 'Workplace Motivation Report', commissioned by T-Mobile and authored by business psychologist Honey Langcaster-James in October this year, concluded workers like to be surrounded by upbeat, enthusiastic personalities.
