Britain 'will meet' Lord Leitch's targets

Britain will achieve the skills targets which have been laid out in the Leitch review, a minister says.

Those looking to fill sales jobs might be interested to know the recently promoted minister for higher education and intellectual property David Lammy, previously the skills minister, claims the UK is still going to obtain these aims, Personnel Today reports.

He told the Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Select Committee these targets will be met and the country will continue to produce a high number of trained workers.

"In the global downturn, we want to make sure that the taxpayers' money we have is there, should people be laid off and need reskilling," Mr Lammy tells the source.

According to the news provider, the Leitch report set targets including ensuring 40 per cent of adults reach level four on the National Qualifications Framework before 2020, equivalent to certificates of higher education or BTEC Professional Diplomas.

It also aims to make sure 90 per cent of adults are at level two, which is the equivalent to five GCSE passes.

A recent survey by Monster reported by Onrec.com found 85 per cent of employees would return to university to gain better qualifications this autumn if they were able to.
