Are sales managers chained to their desks?
Executives find it difficult to disengage from work while on holiday, according to a new study that may ring true for sales managers.
A study by TheLadders.co.uk has found that 82 per cent of UK executives plan to stay in contact with their workplace during their summer break, with 58 per cent professing they find it hard to forget the daily grind while playing with their children on the beach.
Online Recruitment magazine reports that the study found 32 per cent of senior staff, potentially including sales managers, check their emails at least twice a day while on holiday, with a quarter of managers logging on to their accounts at least once an hour.
Sarah Drew, general manager of the website, commented that it is important for people in sales management or other senior positions to acknowledge the difference between dedication to a sales job and obsession.
"We were shocked by how many senior managers felt that their hard earned holiday time should come second best to work," she said.
The study follows a survey by Peninsula cited by Online Recruitment magazine, which found that 85 per cent of managers and executives check their work email while on holiday.
