Sales jobs 'could be healthier'
Organisations could do more to improve the health of staff in sales jobs and other roles, a new report indicates.
According to Personnel Today, a recent pilot initiative run by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) suggests a number of routes employers can take to improve the wellbeing of their staff.
Funded by the Department of Health, the Big Lottery Fund and Sport England, the Well@Work programme discovered that members of active travel schemes spent a typical 24 minutes walking or cycling to and from work.
The programme also found that weekly step counts were up by a third among those who took up pedometer challenges, while a 28 per cent rise in the number of employees taking the stairs was noted after redecoration and poster campaigns.
"We spend 60 per cent of our day with colleagues, so they can provide great support in getting us to swap that chocolate cake for a piece of fruit, or to walk home instead of driving," Nick Cooper, head of heart health with the BHF, told the publication.
The news follows another piece of research that may interest people in sales jobs - Mercer discovered that annual medical benefit inflation is running at some ten per cent.
